Projects & Productions
Judge Documentary
For my Documentary Cinema class in my final semester at Virginia Tech, we were asked to create a documentary about something or someone that moves us. Without hesitation, I thought of Judge Showalter. My goal was to capture the relationship my roommate, Andrew, and I shared with the campus celebrity behind @judge_on_scooter behind closed doors, beyond the persona viewers see online. Over five months, I took the project from concept to final cut. I planned the story and outlined the film, shot interviews and footage of Judge in his everyday life, and spent the rest of the time in post-production, reviewing footage, shaping the narrative, cutting scenes, and refining pacing, audio, and visuals in Final Cut Pro until the story felt right. It was an especially emotional process because Andrew and I were both graduating, which meant saying goodbye to a professor who shaped our time at Virginia Tech. The result is a personal yet relatable short film, 8.5 minutes long, that shows who Judge is to the two of us and what he means to the entire Virginia Tech community as a vibrant, caring personality. The project strengthened my skills in visual storytelling, interviewing, video editing, and project management, as well as my ability to turn hours of raw footage into a clear, emotionally engaging story.
Cinematography Projects
These are two films I made in Justin Parkinson’s Introduction to Production course at Virginia Tech, and they show both sides of filmmaking: collaborating on a shared vision and building one from scratch. Bran & Park, on the left, started from a prewritten script that the whole class brought to life together. In pre-production, our group brainstormed, storyboarded, and scouted locations, and settled on a hitman-themed concept to give the script a distinctive, stylized edge. On set, we typically worked with a Canon 80D Body and an EF-S 17-55mm Lens, a Manfrotto MVT502AM Lightweight Tripod, the Litepanels LED Kit, and a Zoom H6 Field Recordera, along with a Rode NTG4+ Shotgun Mic to control the look, mood, and audio of every scene, and I also stepped in front of the camera as an actor. In post-production, we cut the footage together in Adobe Premiere, tightening pacing, balancing sound, and shaping the story. The untitled film on the right was my final project, and it’s entirely my own vision. Utilizing the same equipment, I wrote the original concept and script, cast the actors, designed the lighting, recorded and mixed the sound, and edited the Final Cut Pro myself. Taking a story from a blank page to a finished film pushed me to think creatively at every stage, from the first idea through the last edit. It sharpened my skills in visual storytelling, cinematography, mise-en-scene, sound design, and post-production.
Integrated Marketing communications project
For my Social Media and Content Marketing course in Fall 2025, my group partnered with a Richmond-based counseling firm, MySpectrumCC, as a real-world client. We began by conducting marketing research on the firm itself, studying its services and positioning to identify its key target audiences. Using those insights, we developed an integrated marketing communications plan and conceptualized two social media campaign ideas tailored to those audiences. After weighing both concepts, we selected the one we felt would connect best with viewers, shown above, which involved sketching, storyboarding, and filming an on-the-street-style interview as our final deliverable. Taking the campaign from research to finished video gave me hands-on experience in market research, audience targeting, creative development, short-form video production, and presenting ideas to a client.
